Bespoke tables and chairs
Slate that is too heavy for freestanding sculptural works is set aside for sculpture tables. Although used for bistro table tops for centuries, slate and stone became design icons through the Brutalist movement from the 1950s onwards.
The fossil tables of Heinz Lilienthal and the slate tables decorated with found items made by Dutch sculptor Paul Kingma inspired Stacey to develop her own skills in this field. However, having little aptitude for the geometric designs favoured by the Brutalists and much emulated by contemporaries of the time and makers ever since, she focussed on her passion for the environment. This informs her distinctive nature-based designs with delicate cutting and inlay style.
Table tops can be made to any size within reason and can be supplied with or without chairs.
Occasionally she makes chairs with slate seats that match table tops to complete the perennially popular bistro set. Classic time-honoured favourites like ladder back or scrolled chairs can be made with matching traditional table bases, but all will feature unique fixings and original characteristics. Chairs can also be made completely out of hand-forged metal without slate seats.
If you would like more inspiration for bistro table sets, simply google bistro sets. As they have been popular for hundreds of years there are hundreds of variations on this theme. Sadly, many modern sets are mass produced and do not match up to the quality of bespoke works, but if there is a style you like we can produce a new design that incorporates your favourite elements.
All metal work is hand-forged by Artistic Blacksmith Georgina Richards at her forge in Devon. We find that acid etching complements the slate but other finishes such as powder coating are available. All metal work is galvanised for outdoor use.
