My aim is to capture the ever-changing relationship of light and colour within the natural and highly durable beauty of slate. My workshop is close to the North Cornish coast, with Bodmin and Dartmoor nearby, all which inspire colours, themes and moods of my work.
I love the way in which light through glass changes according to the time of day or season in which a work is viewed. While the slate provides an enduringly solid design structure, light transforms a static installation into something that is responsive and dynamic within its environment.
My slate is acquired locally in Cornwall and, through various processes including copious hand sanding and waxing, structural pieces become very tactile, engaging more than just the visual senses.
